Udupi, Apr 16: Following the installation of metal gates at key entry points to Udupi Car Street by the district administration to restrict vehicular movement on the street, the trading community held a protest on Saturday, April 15.

The residents and shopkeepers of Udupi Car Street, under the banner of Naalku Veedhi Nivasigala Vedike agitated against the proposal of the district administration to make the street a vehicle free zone by installing metal gates at key points.

Auto rickshaw and Taxi Owners’ Association, Chamber of Commerce, Udupi Jewelers Association, Hoteliers Association and other trading organization participated in the protest.

As part of the protest the shopkeepers downed shutters and held a protest rally to the tashildars office, DC’s office and office of the superintendent of police. They also submitted memorandums to the authorities.
