Beltangady, Apr 16: Beltangady taluk has achieved record progress in the sales of rubber among all the taluks of the Karnataka State. The Beltangady Taluk Rubber Growers’ Marketing and Processing Co-operative Society has recorded rubber sales of 7,700 tonnes by the end of the financial year.

A turnover of Rs 52 crore has placed the taluk on the top in the State in the sale of rubber. The next financial year has now posed a challenge by setting up a target of Rs 100 crore.

Society chairman Sridhar g B on Saturday, April 15 said that rubber procurement centers have been set up at the taluks of Gandibagil, Thotatthady, Arasinamakki, Mundaje, Mundrupady, Kayartadka and Dharmastala. Additional centers will be set up in Sagar, Narasimharajpura, Jadkal, Peradka, Moorje and Hosmar.

The taluk holds the distinction of producing one per cent of the nations rubber produce and 50 per cent of total turnover of the State. The society also supplies rubber to over 200 companies throughout the country.

At a cost of Rs 10 crore, the society has planned to set up Block Rubber units besides a proposal to set up a rubber plant nursery.
