Mangalore, Apr 14: In a shocking incident reported from the suburbs, four men kidanpped a housewife while on her way home from work on late Wednesday around 9-30 and outraged her modesty by turns.

The woman, a resident of Katipalla and working in a phone PCO booth up to 9 pm every day, had got down from the bus and was walking towards home. One Ramachandra Shettigar, an acquaintance arrived with Divakar Salian in a Tempo Trax vehicle and offered her a lift.

Being known to him, she accepted the offer and sat in the vehicle. When the vehicle diverted towards Soorinje, she sensed trouble but in the meantime, Shettigar called up one Krishna Shetty on his mobile phone and asked him to join.

Leaving the Tempo Trax at Peddiangady, they proceeded in an Ambassador which they stopped at a deserted place in Soorinje and the four men are reportedly raped her by turns. Later on, she was dropped home by them. They are even said to have threatened her with life if she informed the police or others.

The husband, on coming to know the crime, filed a complaint with the police. Taking the lead of the call made on the mobile to Krishna Shetty, the Suratkal police, led by inspector Jagannath, in a swift operation, arrested four persons involved in the crime.

They have been named as follows:

Ramachandra Shettigar (25), resident of Katipalla-Kaikamba, already accused in a murder case
Divakar Salian (26), of Katipalla III Block, and reportedly a crane operator at NMPT, also accused in a murder case
Narayana Devadiga (28), a contract driver with MRPL
Kattada Krishna Shetty (31), contract driver with MRPL, also a supervisor with Janani Travels

The case is being pursued by the Suratkala police, who have received high appreciation for their success in nabbing culprits so fast.
