Moodbidri, Apr 13: This week was marked by some religious events in town.

Ashwathapura-Sampige is a tiny village situated on Mulki-Moodbidri road.

A welcome arch for the temple was erected by the public, under the initiative of Ashwathapura Chaitanya Seva Sangha at a cost of Rs 3 lac. The arch which leads to the well-known Seeta Ramachandra temple was inaugurated Sringeri Shri Bharati Tirtha Mahaswamiji on April 11.

A traditional welcome was given by the people of Ashwathapura, led by Deshastha Brahmin with Purna Kumbha Kalasha.



The annual Rathotsava of the Thousand-pillared Basadi was celebrated in the Basadi's precincts. Swati Shri Charu Kirti Bhattaraka Swamiji of the Jain Math, Moodbidr blessed the occasion.

Mahaveer Jayanti was inaugurated by Shri Dharmasthal Rajendra Kumar. Kadarilal Patori of Rajasthan lit the Mahaveer Jyoti (lamp). State minister Nagaraj Shetty released a souvenir. Local MLA Abhayachandra, retired assistant commissioner Harishchandra Shetty of Betkeri were chief guests.

Two trustees Sudhesh Kumar Shetty and Chandraraj Shetty were on the dais.

A traditional dance by children was staged in conclusion. Niranjan Kumar and Shripal were the organizers of the programmed. Sanjayat Shetty proposed the vote of thanks.
