Moodbidri, Apr 9: Cultural festivities will mark the grand Rathotsav of the world famous Thousand Pillared Basadi (Saavira Kamba Basadi) and the 2604 birth anniversary of Bhagvan Mahaveer which will be held on Wednesday, April 12 and 13 at Moodbidri.

Jain pontiff Bhattaraka Charukeerti Panditacharya will grace the occasion and preside over the chariot festival of Basadi and the religious ceremonies, which will be held on April 12.

Dharmasthala’s D Rajendra Kumar will inaugurate the Mahaveer Jayanti and an entrepreneur from Rajasthan Kavarilal Pathodhi will be the chief guest.

Minister for endowment B Nagaraj Shetty will release the bulletin published on the occasion. Eminent littérateur M A Jayachandra, MLA Abhayachandra Jain and retired district commissioner M Harishchandra Shetty will be the chief guest.

To the accompaniment of drum beats, a grand procession will be  held 6 pm. Later in the evening a cultural programme will be presented by the children.

On Thursday, April 13, the pontiff Bhattaraka Charukeerti will preside over the ceremonial chariot festival and Shramana convention.

DK DC H V Parshwanath will inaugurate the convention while State Apex Bank president M N Rajendra Prasad will preside over the programme.
