Puttur, Apr 8: A lorry driver who had gone to the river for a wash died of drowning after he slipped and fell into the river at Gundya near Nelyadi here on Friday April 7.

The deceased has been identified as Balu (45).  He had gone to the river for a wash during a traffic jam at Shirady Ghat on Friday.  However, as he was bending and washing his face, he is said to have fallen into the river and drowned.

But it was not known to people at Shirady.  When the police came and cleared the way for traffic, all the vehicle caught in the traffic jam moved ahead.  But one lorry did not.  When the police and locals checked, there was no one inside.

It was then that the people from Gundya said that the lorry driver had drowned in the river. 

The Uppinangady police have registered a case in this regard.
