Sullia, Apr 3: A person has reportedly died of immunization vaccine reaction at Yenekal near Subrahmanya here in the last week.

The person died after his body reacted to a vaccine given for immunity against monkey fever.

Sitaram Gowda (66) had gone unconscious after being vaccinated against monkey fever.  Though initially he was admitted to a private hospital at Kaniyoor hospital, there was no improvement in his health.  So he was shifted to KMC Hospital at Mangalore.  But he died there after failing to recover on Friday March 31.  His body was handed over to the family members after an autopsy on Saturday April 1.

As reported earlier more than 6,000 persons were vaccinated as a preventive step for monkey fever in Balpa, Yenekal and nearby areas in the last couple of months.  But despite the vaccination and other steps, the monkey fever has not yet come under control in the taluk.
