UP names new Madrassa board chief


Lucknow, Nov 9 (IANS): The Uttar Pradesh government has appointed Qazi Jainus Sajiddin as the chairman of the Madrassa board in the state.

Sajiddin is a retired professor from the Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) and taught Arabic language.

Minority Affairs Minister Mohd Azam Khan also late Friday announced six members of the board -- Gulam Shabber Faridi (Balia), Maulana Jille Mujtaba Abdi (Amroha), Maulana Khaleel Atahar Ashrafi (Rampur), Mohd Anvar Aalam (Meerut), Mohd Atahar Abbas Qazmi and Syyed Khalid Miyan of Rampur.

The minister said three more members would be named for the panel, including one representative of the union government, one each from the legislative assembly and the legislative council. These nominated members would be named soon, officials said.
