Mangalore, Mar 31: Karnataka Konkani Sahitya Academy is on a mission ever since Eric Ozario took up its mantle about a year ago.  A lot of programmes have been organized to promote Konkani culture, traditions and artistes. Many new and innovative programmes have been introduced which have been widely appreciated by all.

Now once again the Konkani Sahitya Academy has come up with another programme which is sure to attract Konkani buffs in large numbers.  The academy has organized first-ever Karnataka Konkani folklore fest at Karwar on Saturday April 1.

The cultural evening will be held at district rangamandir of Karwar at 5.30 in the evening on Saturday.  Various folklore and cultural troupes from the state will present programmes on the occasion.  Following is the list of troupes and programmes to be held on Saturday evening.

Gumta songs by Joachim Pereira and troupe
Tonnyo, gumta dance by Kudubi Janapada Kala Vedike, Yedapadavu
Benkiyata (fire play) by Shri Anjaneya Gym, Kundapur
Phugddi by Konkani Kala Pangad of Mallapur
Gumta dance performance by Konkani Kharvi Kala Mandd, Bhatkal
Xigmo, zakai, damaam by Siddhi Cultural Trouope, Yellapur
Gumte faang by Shri Brahmadev Gumte Faang Troupe, Kinnara
Tipari by Mahasati Cultural troupe, Rajekan Bag

Noted journalist, artiste and litterateur Chetan Joshi will be the chief guest of the programme while academy president Eric Ozario will preside over the programme.
