Udupi: Mar 31: The Hemophilia Federation of India had organized a National Painting Competition as part of World Disability Day in December 2005. “Hemophilia without disability children free of pain” was the theme of the competition. School children and children with hemophilia from VI to XII standard participated in the competition from all over the country.

Anusha Shenoy of class IX of Manipal Junior College won the first prize for the senior level competition. She is awarded a shield, cash prize of Rs 6000 and a certificate of appreciation from the Hemophilia Federation of India for this achievement. The Manipal Hemophilia society and the management of Kasturba Hospital, Manipal have congratulated Anusha on her success.

Hemophilia Federation of India (HFI) is a national organization, which is the satellite body of World Federation of Hemophilia, Canada. The HFI has done a lot in the care of these patients. It aims at providing treatment facilities at affordable rates, educate persons with hemophilia and the families about care, organize workshops to train medical/paramedical personnel for hemophilia care.

Manipal Hemophilia Society is the affiliated chapter of the Hemophilia federation of India. The members include patients with hemophilia and other related inherited bleeding disorders like Von Willebrand’s disease. It functions from Manipal with treatment centers in Mangalore and Kasturba Hospital, Manipal. It has now 167 patient members from northern parts of Kerala, Karnataka and Goa.

The Manipal Hemophilia Society has been providing comprehensive care for the patients with hemophilia with the help of the departments of Medicine, Pediatrics, Orthopedics and Physiotherapy of Kasturba Hospital. Rehabilitation, education of patients and public about the disease, conduct of camps for the patients were the other activities undertaken.
