Trams collide in Sarajevo, over 40 injured

Sarajevo, Nov 2 (IANS): More than 40 passengers were injured when two trams collided in central Sarajevo Friday.

The collision took place at a crossover near the US embassy, Xinhua quoted police as saying.

The injured, including the two drivers of the trams, were rushed to nearby hospitals.

Most of the passengers were released after a check up while a few remained in the hospital for further treatment, police said.

Ministry of Internal Affairs spokesman Irfan Nefis said investigators were trying to ascertain the cause of the accident.

Some witnesses said the crash happened when one of the trams apparently ignored the red light and smashed into the other tram.
