Activists to protest Uttarakhand disaster relief misuse

New Delhi, Oct 25 (IANS): Activists from various organisations will sit on a hunger strike in Dehradun to protest irregularities in disaster relief distribution by the Uttarakhand government, a statement said Friday.

The hunger strike will be held at Gandhi Park Nov 7-9.

Activists claim the state government is illegally holding up resources and not releasing the money received for disaster relief to intended beneficiaries.

"Four months after the disaster, the Uttarakhand government has done precious little to ensure that the victims receive help and rehabilitation," said Shankar Gopalakrishnan of the Campaign for Survival and Dignity.

The flash floods in mid-June in Kedarnath left hundreds dead and thousands homeless.
