Karkala, Mar 23: The inhuman episode of the attempt to rape on a minor girl at End Point in Manipal, is fresh in the minds of the people. It is indeed shocking that the instances of assaults on minor girls is on a rise in the state. For no fault of theirs, these innocents are hauled into a life with a taboo nailed on them.

To add up to the list of cruel acts is another episode which took place in Kervarshi in Karkala taluk where a minor girl was assaulted by a youth.

The incident which took place on March 11 a day before the Manipal episode, came to light recently.

More shocking is the fact that the girl child was a student of class IV and was abused by a person who was well acquainted with the victim and her family.

The accused Divakar Rai (32), on March 11 noticed the girl returning home from school. Rai enticed the girl telling her that he would provide her mangoes if she came with hem. The child followed him. Rai took her to a deserted region near his house and assaulted her.

The girl who was threatened by Rai swallowed the pain and reached home. Although she underwent immense pain, did not reveal it to any one until her mother noticed her gloomy behaviour. Unable to withstand the pain, she finally disclosed it to her mother, following which a complaint was lodged against Rai.

Rai, a resident of Kervarshi has a brother and two younger sisters. However, Rai is reported absconding.

The second instance of violence on minor children reported in the past 15 days has raised concern among parents on the security of their wards.
