Udupi, Mar 22: A housewife who was in her mid twenties ended her life by hanging herself from the roof of her house on Tuesday March 21 at Padukudoor of Varanga village near Hebri here.

Savita Acharya (26), wife of Sudhakar Acharya committed suicide in her parental house at Padukudoor on Tuesday when no one was at home.

Savita had been given in marriage to Sudhakar of Marnakatte one year ago.  The members of both the families said that there were no problems between the couple.  At the time of her suicide Savita was pregnant.  So her sudden suicide has left everyone in shock.

She had come to her parental house a couple of days ago for the Mari feast (a local rite wherein animal sacrifice is offered to the deity).  On Tuesday all the family members had gone to the temple.  Taking advantage of this time, Savita committed suicide.

So far the reason behind the suicide is not known.  Savita's brother Sanjeev Acharya has filed a case with the Hebri police station in this regard.
