Mangalore, Mar 20: In an unusual incident, an accused was knocked down to death by a speeding bus while trying to escape from police at Kulshekar near here on Sunday March 19.

The deceased has been identified as Govinda Dumbala Pimple (40).  He hailed from Pune in Maharashtra but involved in robbery and theft cases in the districts of Dakshina Kannada and Udupi.

He was arrested on Saturday March 18 by Mulki police in connection with the theft in one Colonel Serrao's house at Kulshekar.  Accordingly, on Sunday he was brought to Kulshekar to identify the house.  After getting down from the police jeep, he was walking along with the police to Colonel Serrao's house when he pushed one constable to the ground and fled the place.

As he was running on the road, a recklessly driver private bus (Route no 3A) knocked him down.  As a result, he was injured seriously and was rushed in to a hospital.  However, he succumbed to the injuries on the way.

He was arrested by police in connection with two theft cases in Moodbidri and one theft case at Kulshekar.

Though he has died, a case has been filed on him in the Kadri police station. So too one Vijay Kumar of Silver Gate has filed a case against bus driver Eishwar Manjunath Suvarna in the Kadri police station.
