Karkala Mar  20: The annual meeting and the election for the office bearers of Catholic Sabha Karkala Varado was held on Sunday, March 19 at Chirst the King Church Hall, Karkala.

During the annual general meeting (AGM), the election for the new office bearers was conducted by election commissioner Martin D’Souza, the treasurer of the central council.

The new committee comprised of:

· Spiritual Director: Fr Francis Cornelio, Attur
· President: Robert Menezes, Kanajar
· Vice president: Vinup D’Souza, Miyar
· Secretary:  Clotilda D’Souza, Karkala
· Joint secretary: Maria Monteiro, Karkala
· Treasurer: George Ranger, Miyar
· ‘Amcho Sandesh’ representative: Elcy D’Souza, Karkala
· Central Lady Representative: Precilla D’Souza, Hirgan
· Immediate Past President: Herman Castelino

The out outgoing president Herman Castelino, presided over the AGM. The guest of honour included Fr Francis Cornelio, Fr Melwyn D’Souza of Karkala Town, SHG president Francis Sequeira, animator George Ranger and businessman Leo Periera. Former president Joachim Pinto and secretary Elcy D’Souza were also present on the occasion.

A cultural extravaganza was also organized on the occasion followed by the post lunch session.


Fr Lawrence Gomes of Karkala Town distributed the prizes. The Attur church team won the first place, while Parapady and Nellikar won the second and third respectively.

The Kanajar unit bagged the annual prize for the most active unit of the Varado. The Late Leena D’Silva Rolling Shield was given away by John D’Silva

Clotilda D’Souza and Kanti Lobo compered the programme.
