Mangalore, Mar 18: The Union Government’s decision to stop issuing advance license for import of betelnut has been accepted by the Central Arecanut and Cocoa Marketing and Processing Cooperative (CAMPCO) Ltd.

S R Rangamurthy, president, CAMPCO, appreciated the gesture of the MPs representing betel nut-growing areas, for forwarding the memorandum to commerce minister Kamal Nath.

The government should also prevent the import of betel nut, so that it can be processed locally and the tannin thus derived can be exported, he added.
