Bangalore, Mar 17: The rumours about it were making rounds in Gandhinagar, the hub of Kannada cinema in the city, and elsewhere for quite some time now. Finally Sandalwood heart-throb Rakshita and director Prem got betrothed in a quite ceremony here on Thursday, March 16 morning.

The film heroines seem to be more and more getting around to the belief that the filmi flings, flirtations and infatuations (read 'affairs') ultimately lead them nowhere. Hence there has been a trend amongst the southern film heroines to tie the knot at the opportune moment, or, as the cliche goes, strike the iron when it is hot. Earlier, the heroines used to think that the moment they got married, their star value and market ratings would crash.

Tara was at the pinnacle of her career and but got married last year to cinematographer Venu in a flash, although rumours about their emotional involvemnet were floating for years.

Very recently the Coorg beauty Prema got engaged to a fellow-Kodava software engineer. They will be getting married soon.

These are only prominent cases, thought there could be other starlets who too decided to get settled.

The betrothal of Rakshita and Prem took place at the former's place in Jayanagar here. They chose to make it a quiet happening. The ceremony was at 10-30 am and the entire ritual, including pujas, lasted from 8-30 am to 11 am.

Prem has directed a few movies and is now turning a hero in the Kannada movie - 'Priti Yake Bhumi Melide?' (Why on Earth there is Love? - quite a paradoxical title?)

A shamiana was put up in front of Rakshita's house. Apparently no one from the industry had been called. All efforts by mediapersons, including this correspondent, to click photographs failed. Let alone clicking, even the entry was prohibited by the security personnel.

The official announcement is expected to be made to the industry colleagues and the mediapersons on March 31, which day happens to be Rakshita's birthday. They are expected to get married sometime after November later this year.
