Udupi, Mar 16: Despite several changes and adaptations in the modern day education system, there has been one thing which has never changed- the importance of SSLC in student's life. SSLC is perhaps the most important year in a student's life.

But it is quite disheartening to know that even if the student does not perceive the importance of this phase he/she has to go through the grinding process of examinations. This is why many of the students undergo lot of tension and turmoil before and during examinations.

Many of them succumb to this pressure and end in committing suicides, running away from home etc even before the exams. Yet some cope up in the beginning but give up when their results do not fetch them marks as much they expected.

But right now the system is such that they cannot get away from this. That is why the SSLC exams come every year without much change. Accordingly, the students in the state are all set to face the toughest test of their life in the form of SSLC exams, which will begin on Thursday March 16.

A total of 19,145 students from the district are appearing for the exams. There are a total number of 56 examination centres in the district among which 6 are new centres.  The centres at Nittoor High School, Government High Schools at Brahmavar and Siddhapur, St Gregory High School at Nada and government colleges at Muniyal and Khambadkone are facilitating for the first time as examination centres.

There are 6 cluster centres in the city itself, while there are 2 each cluster centres at Brahmavar, Kundapur, Karkala and Kota.

Section 144 is imposed within 200 metres of the examination centres. The vigilance squads under the deputy commissioner have been keeping a close eye on the examination process. Other than the vigilance squads formed by education department, there are 4 squads from the revenue department.

More information regarding the exams could be obtained from district nodal officer Sitaram Shetty at 94490 87121 or 2531289.
