CBI arrests two Customs officers at Kochi airport


Kochi, Oct 10 (Agencies) : In a major embarrassment for the Customs, CBI today arrested two of its officers, including Deputy Commissioner C Madhavan, in connection with the smuggling in of 20 kgs of gold bars from Dubai to Kochi recently.

Besides, Madhavan, Preventive officer Sunil Kumar was also arrested, CBI sources said.

The two would be produced before the CBI Special Court tomorrow.

Madhavan and Sunil were arrested under the Prevention of Corruption Act for abusing their official position.

Another preventive officer, Sanjay Kumar Soni, is also listed as accused in the case.

The other accused in the case are Faiz T K, who was arrested from Delhi and brought to Kochi, Harris, his wife Arifa and Asifa.

The smuggling racket came to light when Customs officials arrested Arifa and Asifa, who had managed to come out of the green channel allegedly with the help of customs officials.

The two women were arrested as they were about to leave the airport. The gold had been concealed in pouches of a jacket they had worn along with the burqa.

Customs has registered another case in which four persons have been arrested so far-- Arifa, Asifa, Harris and Faiz.

    Catching of couple of Custom Officers in Kochi is just a tip of iceberg. You will find few such Custom Officers at all Airports and Seaports.

    I don't understand why this CBI wasting their time. They smuggled the goods, not robbed.?
    Catch and investigate other looters
    like Vadra, Kalmady, Mulayam, Gadkari, Mayavati, 2G, Coal gate etc. Public will admire and appreciate your honest.
