Petroleum minister takes metro to work

New Delhi, Oct 9 (IANS): Petroleum Minister M. Veerappa Moily Wednesday took a metro ride to office to save petrol.

He also said he will use metro every Wednesday.

Moily boarded a metro train at Race Course station and alighted at Central Secretariat, next to Shastri Bhawan which houses the petroleum ministry.

"Every Wednesday, I will use public transport. I have asked my official car to be lodged in the garage.

"I also ask my public sector companies to use public transport at least once a week," Moily told media persons just before boarding the metro around 9.45 a.m.

He said saving petrol will save the economy.

"It will conserve energy, conserve dollar reserve, and sustain the value of rupee and credibility," he said.

"After three months, we will do an impact assessment survey to see if energy saving tactics have borne fruit. My target is to save $25 billion in forex," Moily added.
