Mom said I used wrong words...but I am young: Rahul

Ahmedabad, Oct 3 (PTI): Rahul Gandhi today conceded the words he had chosen to trash the ordinance on convicted lawmakers might have been wrong but not his sentiment.

"My mother (Congress President Sonia Gandhi) told me the words I used were wrong. In hindsight, may be the words I used were strong but the sentiment was not wrong. I am young....," the Congress vice president told reporters.

Rahul, whose open denunciation and mounting public opinion against the ordinance and the related bill, forced the government to repeal the ordinance, also said he had the right to voice his opinion and claimed a "large part" of Congress party wanted the ordinance withdrawn.

"I have the right to voice my opinion. A large part of the Congress party wanted it," he said
defending his action.

"Why am I being penalised for raising my voice on something that was wrong? Was I wrong?", Rahul said, apparently hinting at opposition BJP, besides some UPA allies, including

Sharad Pawar's NCP and Farooq Abdullah's National Conference which had reportedly criticised the events that led to the reversal of the cabinet's decision.

"My point is detrimental to our allies," Rahul said when suggested RJD chief Lalu Prasad, jailed in a fodder scam case, would be the most unhappy person after what the Congress vice-president did to thwart the ordinance.

Mulayam Singh Yadav's Samajwadi Party, which is supporting the UPA government from outside, had openly criticised rescinding of the ordinace.

Main opposition BJP has been most vocal and even demanded the resignation of Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, saying Rahul's outburst against the ordinance, which he had called "nonsense" and should be "torn up and thrown away", had undermined his authority.

"I spoke my mind on the issue, it is amazing to see reactions to it. I am flabbergasted," he said.

Rahul Gandhi speaks like a common person. These Sangh Parivar does not like simple truthful talks. They want the leader to talk like a superman and talk big even if it is full of lies. Their leader does not know what mother means except make a photo meet with his mother on his birthday.

As per our culture we consider mother at very high place and her each advice is always the last word. I am 54 years now and working in a very responsible position but still all my important decisions are taken after consulting my mother and her blessings. We are human beings and do mistakes. Mother is the one individual who can influence us in correcting our mistakes irrespective of our age.

Sangh Parivar people do not understand this logic.

Rahul used his wisdom at the right time and voiced his concern to trash the ordinance on convicted lawmakers. This kind of boldness is very much essential and I have no doubts Rahul will elevate to be a prospective leader of Congress and the Nation. I have noticed that the language constantly used by BJP leaders does not suit their party's image and BJP is systematically outclassed by Congress leadership with their calculative moves.Rahul is playing a trend setting role in Congress.I wish this young leader the very best luck. Congress still a very strong dominant party in Indian politics because of its huge unmatchable experience.

Rahul baba, you are a 43 year old man now. Considering the life span of humans, that age is called "mid life". I dont know how any 43 yr old can claim to be "young" and hence naive. Without your last name, you wouldn't be fit to even run for panchayat elections, let alone a PM candidate for the world's largest democracy.

The next generation of political leaders in India should come from local bodies where young men and women break their backs working for the party. How did Indian National Congress ever became a "jaagir" of the Gandhi family is beyond me.

It is irony that Congressmen and media are praising the child like remarks of Rahul. It happens some times that a 10 year old child makes some remark and we feel proud as parents that the child is very intelligent. Rahul is 40 plus but has not grown even a bit to show that he is mature. He just walks into Maken's press briefing from nowhere, takes control and makes remarks. Because the Golden words were uttered by Prince of Congress, it has to be honoured!! This happens only in banana republic.
