Sad PM is meeting Sharif: BJP

Kolkata. Sep 29 (IANS): The BJP Sunday described as "sad" Prime Minister Manmohan Singh's decision to meet his Pakistani counterpart Nawaz Sharif in New York despite continuing terror attacks in Jammu and Kashmir.

BJP spokesperson S.N. Singh also demanded Manmohan Singh's resignation in the light of Congress vice president Rahul Gandhi's outburst against the ordinance on convicted lawmakers passed by the cabinet.

"It's sad and unfortunate that the prime minister has gone ahead with the meeting (with Sharif) despite the public mood," he told the media here.

"The prime minister should have given a strong message (to Pakistan) by not participating in the meeting," said Singh.

Singh and Sharif are set to meet later Sunday in Washington under the shadow of Thursday's twin terror attacks in Jammu in which 10 people, including an army officer, were killed.

Gandhi Friday publicly rubbished the controversial ordinance passed by the union cabinet as "wrong" and "complete nonsense" and one that deserved to be "torn and thrown away".
