Omar Abdullah pays floral tributes to martyred soldiers


Jammu, Sep 27 (IANS): Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah Friday paid floral tributes to soldiers martyred in Thursday's terror strike in Samba district of Jammu region.

A defence statement issued here said: "Chief Minister Omar Abdullah and state Deputy Chief Minister Tara Chand paid floral tributes to martyr Dafadar Indra Singh at a solemn wreath-laying ceremony at Air Force Station, Jammu, today (Friday) morning.

"Dafadar Indra Singh attained martyrdom along with three others, Lt Col Bikramjit Singh, Sowar Kiran Kumar Reddy and Sowar Meesala Srinavas during a shootout with terrorists at Samba Garrison yesterday (Thursday).

"The mortal remains of martyr Indra were sent by a service aircraft to Rajasthan after the wreath-laying ceremony.

"Lt Gen P. Bakshi, GOC Rising Star Corps, Maj Gen Balbir Singh, GOC Gurj Division, Maj Gen Ashwani Kumar, GOC Tiger Division, Group Captain S.P. Singh, station commander, Air Force Station, Jammu and other field commanders laid wreaths.

"DGP J&K Ashok Prasad, IGP Jammu Rajesh Kumar, SSP Airport Ashok Sharma and other state government officials were present."
