Quarries under watch

Margao: Quarries operating in Salcette area of south Goa, will come under scanner of Mines Department for probe, as illicit operations are taking place.

Deputy collector Suresh Pilarnekar along with Administrator of Communidade Upasna Majgaonkar andBDO of Salcete Tushar Haldankar had raided the illegal quarry at St Jose de Areal on Monday, and had seized the two trucks and a tractor, and a drilling machine from the site.

Pilarnekar conducted the raid in the Communidade land following complaints from nearby residents that the blasting at quarry caused nuisance.

On anonymous tip-off about the presence of  120 quarries running in the Mathimorod and St. Jose de Areal, Pilarnekar on Tuesday ordered the mines department to take out a list of those who had been permitted by them to operate quarries at the same place.

Being using a communidade land (govt.) for illegal purposes is an offence, and those who are found guilty will be punished, said Mr.Pilarnekar while speaking to this correspondent.

Police team rushes to Karnataka to pursue dacoity case

Margao: South Goa police have got a sure clue in the Mashem-Canacona Dacoity connection that the gang involved in dacoiies around here have sneaked into Karnataka, and for the\is reason the administration has sent a police team beyond the border.

An alleged dacoity took place on Feb 17 evening in the house of Bhushan Prabhugaonkar. Dacoits numbering 8 of which 6 were masked, escaped after looting all gold of total value Rs. 3.5 lac and cash amounting to Rs. 7,500.

Regarding this, when contacted South Goa Superintendent of Police Shekhar Prabhudesai, said that they have got some vital clue, which could soon put the miscreants behind the bars. Soon the case will be solved, he assured.
