Magnitude-7 quake jolts Delhi, NCR


New Delhi, Sep 24 (IANS): A strong earthquake measuring 7.0 on the Richter scale, with its epicentre in Pakistan, hit New Delhi and the National Capital Region (NCR) Tuesday, the Indian Seismological Department said.

The temblor, recorded at 5.00 p.m. Indian Standard Time, had its epicentre 120-150 km north of Pakistan's port city of Karachi, at a latitude of 27.0 degrees north and longitude of 65.7 degrees east. It had a depth of 10 km and was observed 350 km from the Indian border, an Indian Meteorological Department official told IANS.

The quake was felt strongly in Delhi and across the NCR, causing people to run out of their homes and offices. However, no damage to life or property was immediately reported.
