No bid to topple Jammu and Kashmir government: V.K. Singh

New Delhi/Gurgaon, Sep 24 (IANS): Former army chief Gen. (retd) V.K. Singh Tuesday denied any attempt was made to topple the Jammu and Kashmir government, and said the money was given by the intelligence unit for operations to attract youth in the state to constructive work.

Media reports quoting an army inquiry said the former army chief set up a secret intelligence unit Technical Support Division (TSD), which misused its funds in an attempt to topple the Omar Abdullah government in Jammu and Kashmir.

Reacting to the reports, the former army chief said money given to politicians was not for personal or political use, but for programmes to engage youth in constructive work.

"That money was not for their personal work, or political work. If someone thinks bribe was paid, it is totally wrong... These things cannot be done in uniform, so intelligence unit did that," he said.

The former army chief also said that leaked media reports were an act of "treason", and demanded a thorough inquiry into it.

"If intelligence issue are being discussed in public, it is treason. You are telling the enemy what your intelligence is doing. It must be probed how the report was leaked and action should be taken against those who leaked it to malign a few people without thinking how much it will hurt the nation," he said at a press conference here.

He also said incidents along the Pakistan and China borders would not have happened if the TSD, operational during his tenure, was not disbanded.

"Today, whatever incidents are happening on the border, those would not have happened if the unit was not disbanded," V.K. Singh said.

He, however, did not elaborate "on the incidents".

Sources said the present army chief, General Bikram Singh, began the process to shut down TSD after assuming office in May last year.

The reports in a newspaper had also said V.K. Singh paid off a non-governmental organisation to file a court case and try to change the line of succession in the army top brass, and also conducted unauthorised covert operations.

V.K. Singh denied the allegation.

    Gladson-
Glad that there are persons who see through politicians(including VK Singh) game plan.
If he was upright then he should have protested & stopped bribing, which he now opposes.
As you pointed out a person who took the matter to Supreme Court to stick to his CHAIR, is untrustworthy. What he was doing all those years with his old birth date- was he illiterate of ignorant of it?
It seems Birds of same Feather Flock Together.

Why these type of negative and positive comments?. Today he has clarified that he paid the amount to politicians and NGO'S. Now it is Army and Govt responsiblity to know from where he got the money? Is it government money? Our Govt is already under financial crunch. So who approved the money? Is anywhere any one heard army is paying money for youth benefts? This govt responsibility for youth engagement to bring them to main stream. So why he is taken this task? Now if the govt didn't pay,Is the money paid by opposition to destablize the country to get polarize the vote for next election. This shows that opposition party's hand in destabilize the jammu kashmir. They are the main culprits. So that they can tell in next election that central govt is not doing anything. This should be investigated. Rtd.General should go under narco analysis.

    Mr. Gladson, Brahmavar,
With an elaborate essay, you have let open your stupidity and absurdity of your knowledge.

Indian express reported the movement of 2 truops towards Delhi as a coup. are all indians out of mind to belioeve this? Even the Govt. ignored this and took no action on this.
now again IE reports about the money being paid to topple the JK Govt. If govts can be toppled with 1 crore, we would have been seeing one or two govt. falling every day in Idia!
Dont insult a soldier by blindly believing the obsurd and biased reports on newspapew like Indian Express!

Shankar you stand by V K Singh just because he sat beside Modi. But I don't buy this argument even if you term it stupidity. I'm not the one who swims with the current. Check today's reports wherein Singh has said that Army donated money to an NGO get the people, especially the youth, of Jammu and Kashmir involved in developmental activities. What kind of social work? Pay to agents to throw stones so that they get reason to open fire on peaceful protesters? Do you think he is honest by any stretch? Army's job is to protect the people and the nation and not pay ministers and NGOs for social work and I have never come across such a statement that Army pays NGOs for social work. Absurd and utterly stupid. Hmmm...may be he thought toppling a govt is kind of social work. It also means that a part of defence budget goes to the pockets of the ministers. Better Modi stays away from this man because he’s bound to spoil Modi’s image!

Does he become above the Law of this country just because he is close with BJP's PM candidate? He's actually damaging the credibility of the Army. We never had to contend with such an Army chief. Irrespective of the party, India has seen numerous Army chiefs and none of them had face-off with the govt. But he forged DOB just to remain in power and when he was caught naked, he is blaming the govt because they exposed him. It is shameful that a General of country of a stature like India has gone out of his mind. To hide his misdeeds during the service period he is worried after getting retired from the Defense services. He needs a political shelter. There cannot any better place than the BJP Camp. He is misguiding the country and the media. For media he is a hot cake to sell. I can bet this man is not honest and is taking everyone for jolly ride. You may have your own opinion but I hold on to my opinion because I'm convinced of it.

Gladson, V.K sing first leaked Tetra truck deal corruption and he joined Anna movement and shared dias with Modiji. After all this do you think congress will leave him Scot free if it is proved he had moved soldiers towards parliament or tried to topple elected state govt. People should think twice before talking against soldier. If you respect soldier then only you will be true Indian.

Shankar, welcome to the matrix! The Indian army is the last unbiased organization that stands between the neo-Mughals in Delhi and their total domination of India. So it is important to besmirch the reputation of an organization which takes bullets so the rest of us can sleep in peace.

This is nothing new. Whats alarming is the rate and magnitude of the evil that is being unleashed on the nation's security establishments. The Delhi rulers have now effectively pegged IB vs RAW, CBI vs IB, NIA vs CBI, MI vs RAW and so on..

Gen VK Singh rattled the cages of the dilli-billis. So they, along with their paid media, have to make an example out of Gen VK Singh to keep his successors awry of ever threatening "the establishment".

A man who used wrong means to remain in power cannot never be a patriot even if he is or was Indian solider. He changed his birth certificate because he wanted to continue in power. This proves that this man is cunning and can do anything to gain and remain in power. It has already been established that he was moving forces close to New Delhi in order to topple govt before IB foiled his attempt. Now he is into another serious problem. A person cannot again and again get into trouble unknowingly. There isn't smoke without fire. He has been exposed by the Army personnel and not by govt.

So should we support an individual whose integrity is questioned even by the highest court of our country or should we believe the Army? I would go with Army. He is a headless chicken running all around and trying for a political asylum. He initially sought refuge in Kejriwal camp and then moved to Anna Hazare's camp. He was later seen cozying with Baba Ramdev and now he's trying for a honymoon with Modi. He surely has good connections in Army even now and therefore knew what enquiry was going on and even the results. So immediately sat next to Modi so when he is exposed, he can call it a political conspiracy and blame that he is targetted for sharing dais with Modi. The problem with most of us Indians and the youth is that we are engrossed by mass hysteria and hence these kind of rotten eggs take us for jolly ride everytime. We have lost power to rationalise and hence often go witih the herd mentality. Just because he is close with Modi, can we term that the enquiry by the Indian Army about TSD is wrong and only V K Singh is right? I'm very sure that this man has a dark side to him and when all the skeletons from his cupboard fall apart, we may be in utter shock. He's politically ambitious and such people can go to any length to gain power and remain in power.

As GenVKS has pointed out in these days of Lakhs of Crores scams, no one would believe with 1 Crore a Govt. could be toppled. It is again Khangress dirty politics & vengeful attitude that they are throwing mud on Retd.GenVKS without relaising how dangerous they are playing by letting out Army secrets for their electoral gains - Gen.VKS - a Honest, patriotic person & just because he attended meeting with Modi & Khangres is S*it scared of Modi & his prospects in next General Elections they are doing all this. It is high time all Bharatwasiyon to drive out Italian mafia led Indian National Khangress out of this country for ever & save the country.

Former Army chief Gen VK Singh is now under scrutiny for 'trying to topple J&K govt'.
Every time you think our government can't stoop any lower, it gets even worse.
First the nuclear liability bill, serving American interests at the cost of lives of our countrymen. And now this!

Congress govt. is guilty of demeaning, devaluing and destroying institutions and this slander campaign against Gen VK Singh is clearly a part of that process.
Come to think of it, first if he had to topple the government, why J&K? And also, if Gen VK Singh had actually tried to topple a govt., why didn't this government act against him back then?
The truth is, Gen VK Singh, unlike others, has been a whistle-blower against the wrong policies of the government which have been detrimental to India's defence and morale of the Armed Forces.
The purpose of slandering Gen VK Singh is to try and dampen his anti-Congress zeal as he recently shared dais with Narendra Modi. Which also brings us to the question of the timing of the news in IE.

Patriots, it’s time to stand Unite behind General, for the sake of our nation...
