Why now, this report on Gen V.K. Singh?, says BJP

New Delhi, Sep 22 (IANS): Bharatiya Janata Party chief Rajnath Singh Sunday questioned the timing of the report on the alleged misuse of secret service funds by former Indian Army chief Gen V.K. Singh, saying the Congress was targeting him for joining the BJP.

"Why was no action taken against him (V.K. Singh) when he was serving? This is happening a year after his retirement, when he shared the dais with Narendra Modi," Rajnath Singh told reporters here.

"Congress is targeting anyone who is seen with the BJP," he said.

Following reports in the media, the government said it will take further action on the issue after "careful examination".

A media report Friday referred to an army inquiry on Gen. Singh misusing secret funds to destabilise the Jammu and Kashmir government.

The report referred to an inquiry by a board of officers into the functioning of the Technical Services Division (TSD) of the Corps of Military Intelligence during Gen. Singh's tenure.

According to the news report, TSD secret funds had also been paid to an NGO to try and change the line of succession in the army top brass through a legal case.
