Mangalore, Feb 27:  At a meeting organized by the Zilla Panchayat here, Dr Dinesh Kumar, district officer for leprosy cure, informed that there are 72 lepers in Dakshina Kannada district, out of whom 16 persons have been completely cured, while the other 56 are undergoing treatment.

In order to bring about awareness among the public, handbills are being distributed, he said. A phone-in programme with the doctor was also decided.

Separate arrangements are being made for treating women patients, who are 31 in number, of the total patients. 

While 6 cases were detected in the city in January, no case was detected in Sullia taluk.

Also present at the meet were Dr Girish P N of A J Hospital, Rahmathulla, education coordinator and A M Kunjappa, Zilla Panchayat chief executive officer.
