Gurgaon special cell to counter financial frauds

Gurgaon, Sep 20 (IANS): Gurgaon police Friday set up Serious Fraud Investigation Cell (SFIC) to counter big and serious frauds along with special economic scams in the city.

Gurgaon Police Commissioner Alok Mittal inaugurated the SFIC special branch in sector 51 here.

The joint commissioner of police will supervise the cell while an inspector-rank officer will be its in-charge.

"Gurgaon has developed and progressed speedily. Besides automobile factories, hub of IT, Cyber City, Millennium City, BPOs, MNCs, corporate offices, financial companies, banks and offices of giant builders have been functioning from here," Mittal said.

Due to all this, financial activities have increased many times and so have the number of frauds.

"To tackle with big and serious frauds, SFIC was needed," he said.

"The new cell will be provided with adequate modern equipment to collect scientific and other evidences, vehicles, experts and manpower," Mittal added.

The complete Gurgaon Police commissionerate will fall under the jurisdiction of the SFIC.
