1.5 tonne drugs seized in Turkey

Ankara, Sep 18 (IANS): Police in Turkey have seized 1.5 tonnes of cannabis during a major anti-smuggling drive, Xinhua reported Tuesday.

The cannabis, concealed in a gasoline tanker truck, could be recovered as police stopped the vehicle coming from Diyarbakir province Monday. The police also detained six suspects from the area, said the report.

Turkey has long been a key transit point along the drug smuggling route from Asia and Middle East to Europe.
