Eight Taliban killed in army raid in Afghanistan


Maimana (Afghanistan), Sep 17 (IANS): Fourteen people, including eight Taliban militants, were killed in clashes in parts of Faryab province Monday night, a local official said Tuesday.

"Units of the national army in coordination with police raided Taliban hideouts in Qaisar and Ghormach district Monday night, and during the operation which lasted for a few hours, eight Taliban militants, including their commander Mohammad Rahim, were killed and several others sustained injuries," Mohammad Reza, an army spokesman in the province, told Xinhua.

He also confirmed that five local policemen and an army soldier lost their lives in the clash in Faryab province with its capital at Maimana, 425 km northwest of Kabul.

Taliban militants are yet to make any comment.
