Mangalore, Feb 22: Manjunath, the car driver of MLA Yogish Bhat was assaulted by a group of persons on Tuesday February 21 night near Shri Venkatramana Temple at Car Street.

The assault is said to be owing to an old intra-community rivalry.  A few days ago Yogish Bhat had visited the temple during is annual fest.  As the system in the temple, he had stood on the VIP persons queue to receive the 'prasadam'.  During that time, his driver Manjunath too stood on the same queue and received prasadam.  This was strongly objected by a few persons who were on the spot.  However, the issue was sorted out after MLAs intervention.

But when Manjunath had gone to the same temple on Tuesday night, a few of them ambushed and assaulted him.  Some sources said that the assailants have been identified as Venkatesh Kamat, Subraya Bhat, and Ranganath Bhandari etc.

Manjunath was hit with wooden clubs by the group.  He is now admitted to Wenlock Hospital and is recuperating.
