Karkal, Feb 21: The Kanajar ICYM unit, which took birth in 1981 under the guidance of the then spiritual director Fr Jose Menezes celebrated its silver jubilee on Sunday February 19.

The grand celebration was held on the Kanajar High School ground and was presided over by Bishop of Mangalore Fr Aloysius Paul D’Souza.


Speaking on the occasion he called the youth to imbibe virtuous leadership and be successful in life. The catholic youth must adorn the role of soldiers in order to safe guard our Indian culture.

Guest of honour at the programme Dr M Mohan Alva the chairman of Alva’s Education Foundation lauded the service to the society by the Christian community inspite of being small in number.



In his advice to the youth, Alva told them to face the challenges in life boldly and to come out with flying colours.

ICYM president Praveen Lancy Mendonca welcomed the gathering.

ICYM Udupi district director Fr Peter Pinto, Karkal varado director Fr Michael Lobo, Kanajar parish priest Fr Alwyn D’Cunha, parish council vice president Celestine D’Souza and ICYM secretary Deric D’Souza were present on the occasion.


Dr Mohan Alva released ‘Perzal’, the silver jubilee souvenir of the unit. On the occasion ‘Lourdachi Zhar’ the parish bulletin edited by R E Rebello was released by the Bishop.
An honour was accorded to the previous presidents of the unit by Fr Michael Lobo.

To mark the silver jubilee year, ICYM unit has planned to provide sanitation facility to 22 poor families of the parish, disclosed Fr Alwyn.

Pramila Pais proposed the vote of thanks.

At the cultural programme, ‘Sang Maka’ a music video album by Wilson Shirva was displayed. The entertainment session included dances and an enthralling Tulu drama ‘Kadale’ge Serandi Sudhe’.

Anil Menezes, Edwin Mendonca and Veera D’Souza compered the programme.
