Puttur, Feb 20: A woman pilgrim was killed on the spot after a Maruti Van she was travelling in overturned on Shirady Ghat near Nelyadi here on Sunday February 19 morning.

The deceased has been identified as Palibai (53), a resident of K G Hally near Jalahally (W) in Bangalore.  She was on her way back to Bangalore along with her family members when the van turned turtle at 9.30 in the morning.  The family had come to visit Dharmasthala.

As the van was climbing the Shirady Ghat it overturned owing to axle failure.  Palibai's husband Suvvalal, Subbamma, driver D Nagayya and Leelakumari who were travelling in the van have escaped with minor injuries.

The body was handed over to the family after the autopsy at Nelyadi primary health centre.  The Sakleshpur police have registered a case in this regard.
