Kundapur, Feb 19: A woman sustained serious injuries while property worth Rs 3 lacs was destroyed in a fire that broke out due to the blasting of an electric transformer in Jadkal on Saturday, February 18.

Eyewitnesses state that the transformer blew up as a tree fell on the electrical cables. The fire destroyed a computer lab of Sacred Heart English Medium School. The incident took place in the morning before the computer class, which escaped any untoward incident.

School headmistress Sr Edward told reporters that the loss has been estimated at Rs 70,000.

The television set in the house of J B Mohan was also blown out while the fire also engulfed the bakery belonging to Santosh Kumar Shetty. Muthamma, an employee at the bakers sustained serious burn injuries as her sari caught fire.

Electronic gadgets in the house of Joseph in Beesinapare near Selkod and a telephone also suffered damage. Few types of equipment at the Jadkal telephone exchange have also been reported damaged.
