Panaji, Feb 16: Goa university is all set to change the academics by introducing semester system and credit system for all its undergraduate colleges from coming academic year.

"We will be the first university to introduce credit system to the undergraduates,’’ stated Goa University vice chancellor P S Zacharius. "This facility would encourage foreign students to visit Goa for their education besides providing quality education to the undergraduate students," he said.

Zacharius, briefing presspersons here, stated that these two systems are introduced as a part of restructured undergraduate courses.

From next academic year onwards, the annual marks evaluation would divided into two semesters and all semesters would be taken into consideration while graduation certificate to the students. The university intends to implement this in a phased manner starting from first year students.

"The semester system with continous assessment and semester end exam motivates the student to study throughout the year,’’ he said.

The Goa university will also implement credit system through all its 22 colleges covering 20,000 students. "Each course offered in a semester is assigned a certain number of credits depending upon the quantity of work required for a student, he said.

It is only when student passes a course that time, he would be able to earn the credits assigned to that course.

The vice chancellor said that in absence of credit system, the students who go abroad are asked to repeat all the courses.
