Nikhil Thampi pays tribute to his granny at LFW

Mumbai, Aug 23 (IANS): Designer Nikhil Thampi showcased a semi-Indian collection inspired by his grandmother's wardrobe on the first day of the Lakme Fashion Week Winter/Festive 2013 here Friday.

His line comprised full-length lehengas with prints, wrap-around skirts, stylish short saris and long kurtas among other things. The clothes were complemented by accessories, which were influenced by those worn by Kathakali dancers.

"The collection is very close to my heart. It's a tribute to my grandmother. It is inspired from my granny's wardrobe. I have used lot of styling and colour palettes. The accessories are an upliftment from Kathakali dancers. So, it was a big gamble altogether," Thampi told reporters after concluding the show.

Using Indian traditional fabrics like linen, cotton, silk and net, Thampi merged them with new age designs.

The garments were the highlight, but the accessories - belts, armbands, brooches, head gear, nose rings and cuffs couldn’t be given a miss.
