Bantwal, Feb 6: The latest and authentic reports about the death of a mother and son at Goltamajal near here, said that it was an accident and not suicide.

One Jayanti (25), wife of Sadashiv of Benjanpadav and her son Rakshan (2) were found dead in a nearby pond on Sunday February 6 afternoon.  The initial reports had said that it was a suicide.  But the subsequent enquiry has revealed that death was caused accidentally and not intentionally.

Both Jayanti and her son Rakshan had gone to participate in the Youth Conference that was going on in Goltamajal.  After the lunch, they were coming back to the house when the child saw a ball floating by the side of a pond.  It ran to grab it but slipped and fell in the pond.  Seeing her son drowning, Jayanti too jumped into the pond to rescue him.  But as she did not know swimming, she drowned in the pond.

Though Rakshan was panting when he was fished out from the pond, he died later before undergoing any treatment.  It is also said that Jayanti had come to her parental house 4 days ago where the tragedy took place.  The earlier reports in these columns had said that death occurred at her husband's house.

Jayanti's husband Sadashiv is working in a medical shop in Mangalore.  A complaint has now been registered by the Bantwal police in this regard.
