Panaji, Feb 6: For the first time in the history of such adventure activities in the region, a team of eight girls from the Military Engineering College, Pune, successfully touched the INS Mandovi jetty in Panaji after completing the historic 5-day-and night offshore sailing expedition on February 4, 2006.

The girls were looking elated after finishing the hectic voyage of 450-plus kilometres which had begun from Mumbai on January 30.

The sailing boats which were used were of the Seagull category, of dimensions 6ft x 21 ft.The team was led by Captain Bhavn K C. Other team members were Lt Smita Gaikwad, Capt Kavita M, Capt Elsey D'Costa (from Goa), Lt Sudha K V, Capt Divya Rufa, Lt Sujaan Roy and Lt Indu P.

The team was trained under the guidance of the naval training team, National Defence Academy, E Compostite Signal Regiment and HBTC.

The team was given a warm welcome. Lt Gen B S Dhaliwal was also present.
