Mangalore, Feb 6: Districtr superintendent of police B Dayananda has initiated strict action against Kadri police inspector Basheer Ahmed who pointed his service revolver and assaulted head constable Karunakar in the Kadri Police Station on Saturday night.

Meanwhile, the accused police inspector Basheer against whom a criminal case has been registered in Urwa Police Station, has admitted himself into a city hospital citing the reason of chest pain. Basheer has also surrendered his service revolver to the authorities concerned. The jeep which was being used by him has also been withdrawn by the department.

The SP has said that a detailed report on the incident has been submitted to the office of the Inspector General of Police (Western Range), based on which action will be initiated against the Police Inspector. However, IGP K S Suresh Babu is out of station and is likely to return shortly.

While the exact reason for the assault is yet to be been confirmed, concrete action against Basheer will be finalized only after the IGP returns.
