JD(S) rebel leader H D Kumaraswamy was on Friday sworn in as the chief minister of Karnataka.

BJP senior leader B S Yediyurappa took the oath as deputy chief minister.

Governor T N Chaturvedi administered the oath of office and secrecy at the portals of Vidhana Soudha, the state secretariat.

Former prime minister and JDS supremo H D Deve Gowda, against whose wishes his son Kumaraswamy joined hands with BJP, was conspicuous by his absence.

BJP president Rajnath Singh, party senior leader M Venkaiah Naidu and general secretary Ananth Kumar were present, as also former chief minister N Dharam Singh.
