Puttur, Jan 23: One person was killed and eleven others were injured when a private bus and a Tata Sumo vehicle collided head-on at Matha on the National Highway 48 near Uppinangady here on Monday January 23 morning at 12.30.

The deceased has been identified as Tata Sumo driver Shanmugam (25), a resident of Asaigoli near Konaje in Mangalore.

The Tata Sumo carrying 12 persons including the driver was on its way to Bangalore from Mangalore when a private bus coming from Nelyadi to Uppinangady collided with it at Matha in the midnight.  While the driver died on the spot, 11 others were injured.  They have now been admitted to a private hospital in Mangalore.

While Mohammad, N S Abdullah, Shariff, Abdullah, Hyderali, Abbas, Imran of Asaigoli have been admitted to private hospital, four others whose identity has not yet been established have been identified to another hospital.

The Uppinangady police have registered a complaint in this regard.
