Parents out for shopping, 2-year-old locked in car dies

Alwar (Rajasthan), Jun 30 (TNN): A two-year-old girl suffocated to death after her parents locked her inside a closed car and went off shopping for an hour. Another sibling and a cousin, who were also left in the car, had to be admitted to hospital in a critical state.

Police said Ishtaq Khan, resident of a nearby village, and his wife Unnas locked the kids, Mahima (2), Parwana (3) and Farhan, their 5-year-old nephew, in Ramgarh town on Friday evening.

A police officer said the children soon started suffocating.

"When the couple didn't return even after an hour, the panicked children started banging on the windows in desperation. Some passersby gathered there and saw the children. They tried to break open the window. However, Khan and his wife also reached by then. By that time Mahima had fainted," said the officer.

Khan opened the car's door and rushed the three to a hospital in Ramgarh where the doctors declared Mahima dead. "Parwana and Farhan were admitted to the ICU. However, due to their condition, they were referred to a hospital in Alwar where they are still serious," said the officer.

Police said Khan told them he thought the kids would bother him if he took them along. "He didn't want them to roam around in the market so he locked them in the car and went shopping with his wife," said a police officer. Police didn't say if they were charging the parents for the death and negligence.

It is an utter non sense on the part of the parent.
Please note that it is dangerous to leave the kids inside the auto operating window cars. Imagine a kid leaning outside and operates the window glass which doesnt have emergency stop will press the neck. Same incident killed a child here in Saudi Arabia. In another incident an Indian embasy Kindergarten bus driver left a sleeping child unnoticed, while ping them to school. When he returned to take back the childern from the school found dead child. This happened in summer due to heat. Hope all the above will be a lesson to learn.

Very sad and an irresponsible act by the parents to leave the kids locked in a car while they go out shopping. Brainless parents and they should be punished for their act.

Dear Dinesh, Even adults inside a locked car are at risk. Because, by the time they realize that they need to break the glass, they might already run out of oxygen and may loose required strength to break the window glass. It is very dangerous to sit inside a stopped car with closed window. Even if the car engine and AC are on while parked, it is better to keep open the window at least by an inch or two if some one is sitting inside as passenger.

AC cars, motor switched off, car window panes up-recipe for suffocation & tragedy.
A simple action of having window glasses little down would have saved their lives or tragedy.
I remember one incident- a politician was caught inside a AC car with motor stalled, central locking not letting outsiders to help. Finally the old tool Hammer by a mechanic saved him by breaking the glass.
The more modern technology the more trouble along with comfort is a gift which can be a curse as well.
May the remaining kids recover & RIP the departed soul.

Very irresponsible parents, how they can keep 3 minor kids in locked car?, slight ventilation if would have been there, baby Mahima would have been survived. May her soul rest in eternal peace. Hope other 2 kids will recover soon.

    Shocking
    India has no CHILD LAWS
in relationship to child safety in cars...
    Seat belts
    Child seats
    Smoking restrictions
    Front seat traveling
    School bus overtaking ban
    Etc
It is high time laws are implemented.
Educate parents don't punish them or else other 2 will suffer.
