Russia to supply aid for quake-hit China

Moscow, Apr 30 (IANS/RIA Novosti): Russia’s emergencies ministry will send two aircraft carrying humanitarian aid to earthquake-hit China Tuesday, the ministry said.

“The [Ilyushin] Il-76 aircraft... will deliver essentials and food to China: overall, some 36 tons of cargo,” the ministry said in a statement Monday.

A 7.0-magnitude earthquake struck Lushan county in southwest China’s Sichuan province April 20, killing about 200 people and injuring over 13,000.

An estimated 2 million people were affected by the quake.

On Sunday, the Russian emergencies ministry had reported having delivered over 13 metric tonnes of humanitarian aid by plane to Sichuan.
