VVIP chopper deal: Jaswant Singh admits changes made in tender during NDA rule

New Delhi, Feb 14 (PTI) : At a time when his party is targeting the government on the VVIP chopper deal, senior BJP leader Jaswant Singh today came to the rescue of beleaguered former Air Force Chief S P Tyagi while admitting that the required parametres in the tender were changed during the NDA rule.

Mr Singh, who was the Defence Minister in the Vajpayee government, said the guilty in the issue is an Italian company and people "have forgotten them".

He favoured expeditious and thorough probe into the allegations of payment of kickbacks in the Rs. 3600 crore deal.

"We should not make wild allegations against a former Air Chief. It is not in the interest of both the Air Force and the country. The probe is on. As Air Chief Marshal (retired) Tyagi himself is saying, the probe should be held early. Why don't you agree to his suggestion," Mr Singh said.

He added, "We should not make allegations against each other till the truth is known."

The BJP leader's comments assume significance in the context of high decibel attack launched by his party against the government, including Prime Minister Manmohan Singh besides Congress chief Sonia Gandhi over the scandal.

Mr Singh admitted that the tender specifications were changed during NDA rule. "Yes, what he has said is true," he said when asked to comment on remarks by former Air Force chief Tyagi that the specifications in the tender were changed in 2003 during the NDA rule.

At that time, George Fernandes was the Defence Minister. Italian prosecutors have contended that the specifications were altered to make AgustaWestland's helicopters eligible in the contract for the 12 VVIP helicopter deal.

Among the changes made were the reduction in the altitude from 18,000 ft to 15,000 ft and it is alleged that the then National Security Advisor (NSA) Brajesh Mishra was instrumental in these alterations.

Big Jokers Party put up more show than substance.
Gave bicycles to students who do not have a need which are used for selling fish and other articles. But teachers got no salary on time or increment for teaching 8plus hours.
Poor peoples are removed from forest land thus cutting their living but Corrupt Vacation Homes are still standing as tourist attraction. Some jokers own them.
But these ones are good in criticizing there at best.

It is agreed that flying height para meter changed during NDA govt 2003. Can anyone deny that actual contract placed in 2010 by UPA? Congress led govt had all the time almost 7 years to find out the fault by NDA if at all there is any. Do you think UPA now came to know that NDA made the changes to take bribe?. So Funny.
See the argument from Congi Chelas " Tender evalvation is done by UPA, Vendor ed by UPA, Order Placed by UPA, Money Paid by UPA but bribe went to NDA" .

Stop spreading rumors. The deal was SIGNED IN 2010 during UPA rule ! In 2003, only the technical requirements for flying were changed, and so far, there is no evidence that NDA actually signed the deal.
You are not only ill informed but also illiterate. You cannot do any reasoning here. BJP only started the process and they changed the specification to avoid a single vendor situation which is very correct and nothing wrong in it. The actual negotiations, scrutiny and finalization happened during the Kaangress regime. Wah re Wah NDA took bribe and UPA is keeping quite! Itni Mohabbat Kyon Hain Bhai?

Some Congi walas giving some nonsense statements. First of all why congress govt not acted one year before when TV reports mentioned about this scam? Why then the govt gave clean chit? Why CBI enquiry not ordered then? If NDA govt was involved in this scam do you think UPA govt will keep quite? Even Kg student can understand this. It is the duty of present govt to look into the matter and to act immediately. Book the culprit who took the bribe whether he is from NDA or UPA. The fact is the present govt totally failed. Yesterday news hour Congi representative was looking like a fool trying to give foolish statements just like some Congi Chelas in daiji.

Jaswant Sing is saying Tyagi is not the guilty.

Italian company paid bribes to close the deal of chopper sale. Then the person who accepted bribe is none other than CONGI MINISTER. Congi is trying to make TYAGI a scapegoat.
