We'll live and let Valentines live: VHP

New Delhi, Feb 13 (IANS): Right-wing groups who have been known to play spoilsport each Valentine's Day have said that this year they will let Feb 14 pass and only launch a helpline for women in distress from Wednesday.

"There will be no protests or demonstrations against Valentine's Day. At the same time, youngsters should behave decently. As a new initiative this year, we have started a new helpline 011-23616372 to help women in distress. We will provide all support to such women," Vinod Bansal, spokesperson, Viswa Hind Parishad (VHP), told IANS.

"The helpline is available round the clock. Durga Vahini and Bajrang Dal, youth wings of Vishwa Hindu Parishad, will attend to calls. If an untoward incident is reported, we will alert the nearest police station," Bansal said.

The right-wing groups said they had no objections to the celebrations of Valentine's Day. "We used to tell young couples to get married, otherwise we would hand them over to police or parents. For the past few years, we have suppressed our opposition to Valentine's Day celebrations. We don't want our young people to ape the West and bring disgrace on our culture," Ravindra Negi, a Rashtrawadi Shiv Sena (RSS) activist told IANS, as he handed out flyers at Connaught Place, asking young people to refrain from celebrating Valentine's Day.

In the past, Hindu radicals usually kept vigil at parks, restaurants and other places on the day, and occasionally went on the rampage, attacking pubs and greeting card shops to prevent young people from celebrating the special day dedicated to love.

"We are not going for any demonstrations. What is the use of protesting when our protests won't stop celebrations? We just end up getting a bad reputation," Sanjay Sharma, a Shiv Sena member, said.

"It's not as if we are doing any moral policing. We urge pubs, restaurants and hotel managements not to organise special events on Feb 14, and to prevent vulgar dances in their premises," Bansal said.

Jai Bhagwan Goyal of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh said that Valentine's Day was used as an occasion for loot by multinational companies: "Valentine's Day is just a gimmick. Multi-national companies loot money from young consumers, and encourage expensive gifting. People buy cards, flowers, jewellery, chocolates or mobile phones, and young people spend lakhs on this particular day," Goyal told IANS.

According to the Associated Chambers of Commerce and Industry of India (Assocham), the expenditure during Valentine's week in India is a whopping at $27 million (Rs.15,000 crore). The estimate was based on a survey of 800 executives in major metropolitan cities and 1,000 students from 150 educations.

Looks like these got paid by the retailers to lie low. Valentines day has lost its sanctitiy. This has been promoted by big business to increase sales mostly of worthless articles. It's is just another opportunity for retailers to sell gift articles, for restaurants to increase clientele.
Gullible lovers should be educated about this, not by moral policing and strong tactics though.

Mr. Jay Goyal, Money is printed and used to spend by anyone who has it. Money is for spending whoever it is rich or poor. Money is printed to spend. Rotation of money brings economy to the country and in return brings more job to reduce unemployment.
So what is your problem Mr. Goyal, People earn money and spend it. Those who have money earn more money because money makes money but nobody can eat money or take money at the end of their life. This is life Mr. Goyal, use it, enjoy it, and live with peace and happiness. Do not worry Mr. Goyal world is nobody's.

Might be youngster members in VHP/BD have their loved one and they too want to celebrate Valentine day in their own style. Due to the deteriorating support within VHP/BD young members for objecting Valentine day, definitely they have withdrawn their protest.

Public objection especially by the youth definitely put the VHP/BD top brass in this situation of withdrawing their protest. Every human being want to live in peace, harmony, happiness without hurting others.

Congratulations to the young lads. Your spirit on new year day celebration has put these BD group members in back foot, as they have very few takers of their ideas. Even their support too will diminish in times to come.

We wish all youngsters and married people who are celebrating Valentine day, enjoy this day to the maximum with your loved ones.

So National Hindu Parishad is transforming as its name suggests VISHWA (INTERNATIONAL) HINDU PARISHAD
    Matured people can understand love
outside marriage bond is not right as per scriptures of all major religions!
It has adverse impact on young minds, children born out of wed locks, live in relationships are burden on society etc.
Everybody understands it is a SIN, but not a CRIME! So going over board and using force is counter productive. We have to channelize our energy to educate them about the social evils and handle them tactfully!

I simply do not understand why all the ruckus is.
In USA, many people have started following Hindu traditions - LORD Krishna is the favorite GOD. Many have turned into vegetarians.
The so called Indian pop songs and movies are a rage in US and Europe.
I have not seen a single protest due to the above in those countries, like here in India.
I always give a Valentine days gift to my wife and 3 daughters. It is a simple way of expressing my love to them.
When I was young, I used to buy gift my girl friends.
Eventually I proposed to one of them on Valentines day and married. I am still married to her for the last 35 Years!
Have a nice day all of you.

Just see how smart these BJP related outfits are. As elections are near, they have been instructed not to do anything as they did in the last couple of years, as they are already afraid of loosing in Karnataka.
People do not get fooled by this attitude. If they come back to power, then for the next five years
