Four Oriya pilgrims killed in UP road accident


Lucknow, Feb 12 (IANS): Four Kumbh Mela pilgrims, including a woman, were killed and over a dozen injured Tuesday when their bus overturned at Chitrakoot in Uttar Pradesh, police said.

The accident took place in the Raipura area, 234 km from here. The driver lost control of the bus and it overturned, killing four people and injuring over a dozen, police said.

The pilgrims were on a brief visit to Chitrakoot after taking a holy dip at the Kumbh Mela on Mauni Amavasya Sunday and were returning Tuesday to their tents near the Sangam in Allahabad.

"All the dead are from Odisha and the injured are being treated at hospitals," Chitrakoot Superintendent of Police (SP) Ram Bahadur Yadav told IANS.

The dead have been identified as Pramila,40, Mayadhar Subodhi,58, Narottam Maharana, 69, and 62-year-old Pratap Chandra.
