Reggaeton star Don Omar wants to become racing driver

Caguas (Puerto Rico), Feb 2 (IANS/EFE): Puerto Rican reggaeton star Don Omar announced he is headed back to college to finish his studies and become a mechanic and professional racing-car driver.

Before giving a motivational talk to 3,500 young people, William Omar Landron, Don Omar, told a press conference he was resuming his higher education at Mech-Tech College in Orlando, Florida.

The college, which the artist left 14 years ago from its original location in Caguas to follow his music career, specializes in automotive manufacturing and mechanics.

"Going back now is different. I'm returning with the wish to inspire people who in a certain moment of their lives need someone to inspire them, and to go beyond what I am now," Don Omar said.

The reggaeton star said he is going back to Mech-Tech College after "reaching my goals and having followed a wonderful moment of inspiration in my life that God gave me" as an artist.

Don Omar said his passion for cars began when he was a kid, since his family, especially his dad and grandpa, instilled in him the idea that it would be a very useful profession.

Though Don Omar will resume his college studies in automotive mechanics, he has already been driving drag racers for two years.

After finishing his studies, the singer will enter the Nascar school in Las Vegas.
