No Change in Policy on Modi Visa: US

Washington, Dec 7 (PTI): The US today said that there has been "no change" in its policy with regard to granting a visa to Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi.

Last week, a bipartisan group of 25 US Congressmen in a letter, had urged Secretary of State Hillary Clinton to continue denying visas to Modi as his government has not adequately pursued justice of the victims of 2002 violence.

"I can confirm that we've received this letter, and I can also confirm there's no change in US policy," State Department spokesman Mark Toner told reporters at his daily news conference when asked about the letter written by Congressmen to Clinton. "I'm not going to get into specific questions regarding visas. I'm just going to say there's no change in our position," Toner said when asked to elaborate.

"We obviously continue to engage with Gujarat across a broad range of issues, as well -- trade, investment, energy, university linkages and people-to-people exchanges. But as to the question of whether justice has been served, you'll have to ask the Indian government," Toner said in response to a question.

Dated November 29, the letter, which came ahead of the Gujarat polls on December 13 and 17, was released to the press by Republican Congressman Joe Pitts and Frank Wolf at the Capitol Hill with family members of the victims of the 2002 Gujarat riots.

As the Gujarat Chief Minister "continues to pursue a potential run for higher office, we believe a change in policy to his request for a visa will only embolden Modi and his government's efforts to obstruct further investigations ... to bring the perpetrators to justice," the congressmen had said in the letter.

I am not day dreaming like you do sitting in KSA. It is the fact that Modi will become PM. You can't digest this.

Modi will be PM of India. Not USA and UK or any other country.

Don't worry snake will never bite you unless you disturb it. Even muslims in Gujarat vote for Modi. Be good for others, others will be good for you. All the best Ismail.

    Dinesh Poojari Kundapura,

In your dream don't think of MODI taking coveted Chair of PM of India. It is a fact in fact. Modi can only travel to CHINA/SRI LANKA/VIETNAM....How could on the earth Modi become PM of our country ,if Airlines list him no fly?Apart from that Allies will ditch NDA the moment of official declaration. That's why when Sushma sailed with current,Venkat Saheb(Naidu) immediately rectified the statement that PM candidate of NDA @ this point of time not warranted!!!!JAITELY COULD BE IDEAL PM STUFF,if NDA penetrates UPA's territories.

Modi has to face the justice which he has denying to 1300 families. Good decision from USA government. Modi has cleverly manipulated the loopholes from our justice system. Not only Indians, people from all over the world wish that the moron would face the justice, which he has been denying from the last one decade.

USA always follows double standards. On one hand it says that it is against terrorism and on another hand it supports Pakistan. Who killed innocent Iraqis in Iraq? Any action taken against George Bush? We don't care whether US gives visa to Narendra Modi or not. We are not dependant on USA. We would have been super power by this time if our politicians didn't resort to corruption.

We don't need you to give VISA for our respected MODI. When he becomes PM in 2014, you will only come to India. That will happen for sure. After all US and UK are not heaven. They are on earth only.

China, JAPAN, Korea etc Presidents do not visit your country, but still they are top in development.
